Changes to Deaf Support Services in North Northamptonshire

We would like to inform residents in North Northamptonshire of an important change to local support services. Deafconnect, a long-established service supporting Deaf, deafened, hard of hearing and Deafblind people, will be unable to continue delivering the service beyond 31 March. We understand the impact this may have on individuals who relied on this service, and we want to reassure you that alternative support is available.

Closure of Deafconnect

Deafconnect has been a long-standing charity supporting the local Deaf community, offering services such as British Sign Language (BSL) training, communication support, advice, and social opportunities.

Unfortunately, DeafConnect will be unable to continue delivering the service beyond 31 March 2026.

We understand that this news may be upsetting. Deafconnect has been an important source of support and community for many people, and its closure will be felt across Northamptonshire.

What This Means for You

Although Deafconnect is no longer operating, support is still available.

Efforts have been made to ensure that residents are signposted to alternative services so that no one is left without access to help, advice, or someone to talk to.

Alternative Support Available

Residents are encouraged to access support through the Deaf support services provided via Shout:

Shout 85258 (Deaf-accessible support)

  • Free, confidential support available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Text-based service, making it accessible for Deaf users
  • Provides support for emotional wellbeing, crisis situations, and general support needs
  • To start a conversation, text 85258 from anywhere in the UK

There are also dedicated Deaf support resources available through:

These resources include information tailored specifically for Deaf individuals, ensuring communication needs are understood and respected.

Reassurance and Next Steps

We recognise that transitions like this can be challenging. If you previously relied on Deafconnect, you are not alone—support remains available, and help is still accessible in ways that meet your communication needs.
