Free NHS Vaccinations Available Across Northamptonshire This August

Residents across Northamptonshire are being encouraged to take advantage of free NHS vaccinations available in local communities throughout August, with the Roving Healthcare Unit visiting a number of towns, parks and community events.

The mobile service is designed to make vaccination easier and more convenient by bringing NHS healthcare professionals directly into communities. No appointment is necessary – eligible residents can simply turn up.

Bringing vaccinations closer to local communities

The Roving Healthcare Unit provides a convenient way for people to check whether they are up to date with their vaccinations and receive appropriate vaccines without having to arrange a traditional appointment.

The service can offer vaccinations including COVID-19, RSV, shingles, MMR and whooping cough vaccines, depending on a person's age, health circumstances and clinical eligibility. Previous Northamptonshire mobile clinics have also offered vaccines such as MMR, flu, RSV and whooping cough to eligible groups. 

Healthcare professionals can check vaccination histories, identify vaccines that may be due, provide advice based on individual circumstances and safely administer eligible vaccinations on site. 

Vaccination remains an important way of protecting individuals and the wider community from preventable illness. It can be particularly important for older people, pregnant women, people with certain health conditions and others who may be at greater risk from particular infections.

Where to find the Roving Healthcare Unit in August

The programme includes visits across Wellingborough, Northampton, Rushden, Corby and Kettering, including appearances at major community events.

Not sure which vaccination you need?

People who are uncertain about their vaccination history can still visit the unit. NHS staff can check records where appropriate and discuss which vaccinations someone may be eligible for.

Eligibility varies according to the vaccine and can depend on factors including age, pregnancy, existing health conditions and clinical risk. This means not every vaccine will be suitable or available to every visitor.

The community approach is intended to remove some of the practical barriers to vaccination by providing accessible, walk-in opportunities closer to where people live. NHS England also lists Northamptonshire arrangements for people who have missed school vaccinations, including catch-up support for eligible children and young people. 

Simply turn up – but check before travelling

There is no need to make an appointment for the Roving Healthcare Unit sessions listed above. However, residents are advised to check before setting off because dates, times and venues can change at short notice.
