About the Role
Many people find it difficult to navigate health and social care services or know where to go for the right support. As a Community Champion, you will help bridge that gap by listening to people’s needs and guiding them towards the right information and services.
You will support members of the public in community settings, helping ensure they feel informed, supported, and confident in accessing the care they need.
What You’ll Be Doing
As part of the role, you will:
- Provide checked and approved information from the Healthwatch team to members of the public
- Help people find relevant health and care information and signpost them to services
- Search for information and confirm accuracy with staff before sharing it
- Record feedback and insights from conversations with members of the public
- Support outreach work in community venues such as libraries and community centres
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for volunteers who:
- Enjoy listening and speaking with people from all backgrounds
- Are friendly, approachable, and confident engaging with the public
- Can use their own initiative when supporting people
- Are comfortable asking for guidance when needed
- Have access to the internet and email (help can be provided if needed)
No previous experience is required, as full training will be provided.
Support and Training
We want your volunteering experience to be positive, enjoyable, and rewarding. You will receive:
- Full training before you begin
- Ongoing support from the Healthwatch team
- Regular contact with a named staff member
- A Healthwatch North Northamptonshire volunteer handbook

Time Commitment
This is a flexible volunteering role designed to fit around your existing commitments. We will work with you to arrange sessions that suit your availability.
Location
You will be based in community settings across North Northamptonshire, including Wellingborough, Corby, and Kettering, such as community centres, libraries, and outreach venues.
